The conical rooftops of the trulli of Alberobello

Where to stay

A woman seen from behind, hat in hand, looks down over the trulli cones and the village street

Where to stay in Alberobello: the areas, walking distances and our nine rooms

The short answer.

In Alberobello you choose between three areas: the nineteenth-century centre, the Rione Monti and the Aia Piccola. Palazzo Scotto is in the centre, a few steps from the Basilica; the two trulli districts are a few minutes away on foot. Nine rooms, no two alike: five in the palazzo, four in the Widespread Collection.

The areas of Alberobello, and what it means to sleep there

The nineteenth-century centre

This is the main axis of the town, built in the 1800s, with the Basilica and Piazza Curri. Palazzo Scotto is here, at Corso Trieste e Trento 30. The palazzo is not in a ZTL, so you can drive right up to the door, and the station is 450 metres away. The trulli are not on the doorstep: you walk to them.

The Rione Monti

More than a thousand white trulli along streets that climb the hill. By mid-morning the coaches fill it: see it early in the morning or in the evening, when it can be walked slowly. From the centre it is a few minutes on foot.

The Aia Piccola

The other trulli district of the town. Like the Rione Monti, it is visited on foot, and from the centre it is a few minutes away.

The palazzo is not inside either district: it is in the centre, and the trulli are a few minutes away on foot. We say it upfront, because guests should find what they have read.

How close it is on foot

  • The Basilica: a few steps from the palazzo.
  • Piazza Curri: round the corner.
  • Rione Monti and Aia Piccola: on foot, a few minutes.
  • Alberobello station (Ferrovie del Sud Est, Bari–Martina Franca line): 450 metres, a ten-minute walk, nearly all of it flat.
  • The Widespread Collection: 40 to 150 metres from the palazzo door as the crow flies, one or two minutes on foot.

By car, and parking

  • Parking is not included. The palazzo has no car park of its own.
  • The palazzo is not in a ZTL: you can drive right up to the door. You cannot stop on our street: at Piazza Curri, round the corner, you pull over and unload the luggage.
  • The Marinelli garage: booking goes through us. It is open 8am–1pm and 2pm–8pm, and they drive you back to the reception.
  • Largo Italo Svevo: a street where you can leave the car, free of charge, about 400 metres away.
  • Public street parking: paid, no booking needed.

How to arrive and where to park

What it is like to sleep at Palazzo Scotto

Palazzo Scotto is a late nineteenth-century palazzo, built by the Rotolo family in local stone. After years of abandonment it came back to life through eight years of restoration.

Sleeping here means nine rooms, no two alike: there is no row of identical rooms. The Suite Trullo is a real trullo in the palazzo garden; the Cummerse has a private terrace and a view of the trulli.

It is a small house with the services that matter: one shared reception for all nine rooms, Wi-Fi in every room, breakfast served at the table. There is no pool, no spa and no shared terrace. NOS, on the ground floor, has live piano on the evenings it is open.

The story of the palazzo

Two ways to stay with us

There are nine rooms, in two groups. We say it before you book, because the distance from the reception differs from one group to the other.

The rooms in the palazzo

Five rooms at Corso Trieste e Trento 30, with the reception and NOS on the ground floor. Only guests aged 18 and over sleep here. The welcome drink, always included until 18:00, and breakfast in the room, on request and at no extra charge, apply to these rooms.

The Widespread Collection

Four units 40–150 metres from the palazzo door, in Vico Avv. Turi and Via Goffredo Mameli, each with its own door onto a quiet lane. They use the services of the palazzo: the reception, breakfast at NOS, luggage storage. Children are welcome; a cot is available on request, with a supplement.

Check-in and reception

Check-in runs from 15:00 to 23:00; check-out is by 11:00. The reception is at the palazzo, from 8:00 to 22:30, and is the same for all nine rooms.

If you arrive after 22:30, let us know: we will send you the instructions to get in. Before and after, we store your luggage at no charge.

Breakfast

It is served by NOS, the restaurant of the house, on the ground floor of the palazzo: every morning from 8:00 to 10:30, at the table, ordered from the menu. There is no buffet. You order by 21:00 the evening before.

There is a seat for everyone, including guests sleeping in the Widespread Collection. Breakfast is included when you book on the official website.

Frequently asked questions about where to stay

It depends on how you want to live the town. The Rione Monti is the trulli district and by mid-morning it fills with coaches. In the nineteenth-century centre, where we are, you can drive up to the door, the station is 450 metres away, and the Rione Monti and the Aia Piccola are a few minutes on foot: you visit them early in the morning or in the evening, when the coaches have gone.

No: the town is visited on foot and the station is 450 metres from the palazzo. If you come by car, parking is not included: the palazzo has no car park of its own.
